Operations Performance Data Analyst

Location:

Houston/Hybrid

As Operations Performance Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and usability of operational data across Contour Global’s global power generation fleet. You will lead fleet‑wide KPI governance, act as the technical owner of the AVEVA PI ecosystem, and enable performance engineers and leadership teams to make data‑driven decisions that directly impact availability, efficiency, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fleet KPI & Data Governance
    • Lead the definition, collection, validation, and governance of fleet‑wide KPIs.
    • Ensure consistency of performance metrics across regions and technologies.
    • Act as global technical owner of the AVEVA PI System (Data Archive, AF, Vision).
    • Manage tag structures, data links, and historian reliability.
    • Coordinate PI upgrades, migrations, and system improvements.
    • Implement automation & digitalization initiatives.
  • Design automated data pipelines using Excel (VBA, Power Query), PI tools, and interfaces to reduce manual reporting.
    • Standardize reporting templates and data workflows.
    • Develop PI Vision dashboards for operations and performance analysis.
    • Support engineers in interpreting trends, anomalies, and events.
  • Performance Analysis & RCA Support
    • Support Root Cause Analysis using historical operational data.
    • Identify abnormal patterns (flat‑lining, sensor drift, bad data).
  • Reporting & Executive Interface
    • Deliver daily/weekly/monthly operational reports for leadership.
    • Act as interface between plant teams and corporate stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Process) or equivalent, Computer Science, or Data Analytics.
  • Experience:

    3+ years in the Power Generation or Industrial Processing sector, with a specific focus on plant performance or systems engineering.
  • Travel:
    Occasional travel to plant sites for system implementation or training.
  • Data Analysis:
    Expert‑level Excel skills (including Macros/VBA, Power Pivot, complex formulas) to manage large datasets.
  • Automation:
    Experience scripting or bridging data gaps between operational and corporate systems.
  • Industrial Software:
    Deep proficiency with the AVEVA PI System (PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework, PI Vision/Process Book) is required.
  • Communication:
    Strong ability to communicate technical data concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and remote plant teams.
  • Business Intelligence:
    Experience moving data from Excel into visualization platforms such as Microsoft Power BI to create interactive dashboards is highly desirable.
  • Domain Knowledge:
    Solid understanding of power generation terminology (e.g., Heat Rate, Availability, Capacity Factor, NERC GADS) and basic thermodynamic cycles.
  • Project Management:
    Ability to manage small‑scale software integration projects, such as upgrading PI server versions or rolling out new reporting templates to multiple sites.
