The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a skilled Radio Technician I to support our mission by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing critical public safety communication systems. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that radios, alerting systems, and communications equipment operate reliably to support emergency response and daily operations. As a Radio Technician I, you will install and program radio equipment, support mobile and portable devices, maintain fire station alerting systems, and provide 24/7 on-call communications support as needed.
The position of Radio Technician I is classified as a full-time hourly non-exempt position.
Pay Rate:$30.75 per hour + $0.20 per year for longevity.
Retirement: TCDRS requires a 7% employee contribution with a 14% employer contribution.
The 457(b) plan is a voluntary retirement account. The department contribution match of up to 3%.

Under the PPO HSA $5,000 plan:
The Department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% of the family premium.
The Department also makes a quarterly contribution toward the HSA account.

The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% of the family premium.
- Short- and Long-Term Disability

The Department pays 100% of the premium.
- Life Insurance - $50,000 policy fully paid by the Department.

The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is available for purchase by the employee. Additional Life insurance is available for purchase by the employee.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio communications equipment
- Test operational capabilities of radio communication systems and components
- Program mobile, portable, and fixed radio equipment in accordance with established standards
- Install structured cabling (CAT5, CAT6, RG6) and other low-voltage wiring
- Assist with installation and deployment of two-way base communications, microwave, audio, control, and associated electronic equipment
- Install, remove, troubleshoot, and maintain radio communications equipment in emergency apparatus and department vehicles
- Deploy and maintain portable alerting devices (e.g., Motorola Minitor, Unication G5)
- Assist in maintaining and repairing fire station alerting equipment, including amplifiers, speakers, decoders, and radio
- Support department-issued smartphones, cellular devices, and vehicle data modems
- Maintain accurate documentation of radio inventory, repairs, configurations, and test result
- Organize and manage inventory of parts and equipment
- Perform duties in compliance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, safety standards, and applicable policies
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience troubleshooting radio communications hardware, software, and equipment
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Effective communication skills and commitment to customer service
Working Knowledge of:
- Radio frequency (RF) technologies and principle
- Electrical theory (DC/low voltage and AC/high voltage)
- Radio communications software and Microsoft Windows operating systems
- Maintenance, testing, and repair tools used in radio communications systems
Ability to:
- Configure and deploy radio communications equipment in accordance with the established standards
- Conduct diagnostic testing on hardware and software using supplier procedures and tools to identify, correct malfunctions, and document results in accordance with established standards
