Lead the re-platforming and build-out of an internal KVM-based virtualization environment on new UCS hardware in the Ashburn data center. Integrate Open Stack and open-source automation tools to support the migration of workloads from legacy datacenter, ensuring robust, scalable, and automated infrastructure.
HIERARCHYWill report to the Service Delivery Manager.
PRIMARY DUTIES- Tear down and rebuild existing ESX-based UCS blade environment, transitioning to KVM virtualization.
- Design and implement an Open Stack platform for internal use, considering open-source alternatives to Open Shift due to current challenges.
- Integrate SAN and Net App storage solutions into the new platform, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Deploy and configure open-source automation tools (e.g., Ansible) for infrastructure management and orchestration.
- Collaborate with internal staff (including offshore resources) and provide technical leadership and mentorship as needed.
- Work closely with network architects and storage teams to ensure seamless integration and operation.
- Document architecture, configuration, and operational procedures for the new environment.
- Support ongoing platform enhancements and troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience with Linux, KVM virtualization, and Open Stack deployment.
- Strong background in UCS hardware, SAN, and Net App storage integration.
- Proficiency with open-source automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Experience with Open Shift and other open-source cloud platforms.
- Prior involvement in large-scale data center migrations and re-platforming projects.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments.
