IT Asset and Configuration Management consultant with SAM
Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)
Job Type: Contract
Role OverviewJoin Global IT Asset and Configuration Management team as the Software Asset Manager, serving as the technical lead responsible for software asset lifecycle, compliance, and cost optimization across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and evolve software asset management (SAM) methods—including inventory tracking, usage monitoring, license reclamation, and retirement—via Service Now ITSM and SAM Pro.
- Create and communicate effective SAM policies and practices to minimize cost, mitigate licensing risks, and maximize value.
- Ensure SAM tool is maintained. Manage software-review and true‑up processes.
- Serve as a primary resource during internal or vendor audits, ensuring timely responses and mitigation plans.
- Define and oversee usage, compliance, and savings metrics. Provide routine and ad‑hoc reporting.
- Engage with IT, procurement, and vendor leads to align on SAM roadmap, usage reporting, and audit processes.
- Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s in Finance, IT, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years in IT Asset or Configuration Management, with enterprise‑level SAM in Service Now. - Technical Skills
• Deep knowledge of software inventory and compliance, licensing models, entitlement reconciliation, and usage tracking.
• Proficient with Service Now ITSM and SAM Pro modules; hands‑on experience with CMDB and Service Catalog.
• Familiarity with ITIL, COBIT frameworks, and audit readiness protocols. - Professional Skills
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate software contracts, usage patterns, and optimization strategies.
• Strong organizational and project management skills to juggle cross‑functional initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical policies to non‑technical stakeholders. - Desired Certifications (Preferred)
• Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM)
• Certified Software Manager (CAMP)
• ITIL Foundation or similar
