Overview
TGS provides scientific data and intelligence to the global energy sector, enabling energy for all by unlocking vital, data‑driven solutions and knowledge. Through an extensive and diverse energy data library, advanced analytics, cloud‑based applications, and specialized services, we work in a way that is Passionate, Results‑Driven, Collaborative, and Responsible.
At TGS, we’re redefining how large, industrial-scale organizations build and operate technology — across cloud, edge, and extreme-scale compute. This role isn’t about running infrastructure. It’s about owning the platform everything else depends on.
ResponsibilitiesAs Director of Architecture & Platform Engineering, you are the primary architect and sovereign owner of TGS’s global technology foundation. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for building, scaling, and evolving a proprietary Internal Developer Platform (IDP), branded as Energize. Your mission is to abstract multi-cloud complexity into a unified, product-centric ecosystem that functions as a force multiplier for the entire organization.
- You own a real product, not a collection of tools
- You design control planes, not just pipelines
- You operate at massive scale — cloud, HPC, data, and edge
- You shape how the company builds software, not just where it runs
Post-merger, you will lead a greenfield-first cloud strategy, modernizing legacy platforms while pushing TGS toward the forefront of Platform Engineering.
Energize:The Platform
Energize abstracts multi-cloud and edge complexity into a unified, product-centric platform. You will build and evolve:
- Energize Kubernetes Work spaces — standardized, Git Ops-driven environments with observability and secrets built in
- Cloud Foundations (AWS primary, GCP stewardship) — account vending, networking, DNS, IAM, and shared services
- Fin Ops & Billing Pipelines — tagging, exports, processing, and dashboards (Power
BI, Grafana) - Edge & Vessel Platforms — K3s-based local control planes with a unified ArgoCD UX from cloud to offshore vessels
Your north-star metric: developer time-to-value.
How You Lead- Product-first engineering: PRDs before implementation
- Modern by design: KRM, CRDs, controllers, KRO, Git Ops
- Autonomy with guardrails: self-service without chaos
- Balanced economics:
- HPC → drive cloud TCO parity or better
- General workloads → faster delivery, richer features, lower effort
You lead 8–12 elite engineers and architects using a squad-based model and eliminate single points of failure through documentation, design reviews, and knowledge rotation.
What You Bring- 12+ years of experience in senior technical leadership, focused on Platform Engineering.
- Proven ownership of building and owning a global-scale Internal Developer Platform
- Deep experience with:
- Kubernetes at scale
- Multi-cloud foundations
- Identity & Zero Trust (SPIFFE, policy-as-code, Vault)
- Extreme data and HPC environments
- Strong background in PRD-driven engineering cultures and a "writer-evangelist" mindset — you explain, document, and influence
This is a rare chance to define the platform layer for an entire company operating at global scale, under real-world constraints, with real authority to shape the future. The role is a full-time permanent position, reporting to the Vice President - Enterprise IT. Location is primarily in our Houston Operational Headquarter in Texas, but office location in the UK (Greater London Area) or Norway (Oslo) may be considered.
If you meet the qualifications and are passionate contributing to our team, we encourage you to submit your application by 03/01/2026.
