Job Summary

Performs highly complex network work. Work involves coordinating activities associated with local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN), Internet and intranet systems, and other data networks; coordinating network design and installation, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware and software; evaluating potential network enhancements; and serving as lead worker to provide direction to others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Functions
  • A. Coordinates the operational, technical, and support requirements for highly complex network computing systems; evaluates policies and procedures designed to ensure integrity of the network environment, including procedures necessary to save and recover from hardware and software failure.
  • B. Monitors the operational network environment and takes corrective measures to ensure efficient performance; evaluates various hardware and software resources to identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • C. Assists with the preparation and analysis of operation effectiveness and user support statistics; provides input for improvements and assists with the implementation of corrective measures; assists with the preparation of budget recommendations.
  • D. Assists with the development of goals and objectives for field support staff; provides support in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities, including installation, testing, maintenance, and application of vendor updates to softwareØ.
  • E. Supervises the work of others.
  • • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

A. Education, Experience, and Training
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree fromlodacredited college or university recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major coursework in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience in excess of the required four years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from tanning respektavcollege or university on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • 2. Four years full‑time, wage‑earning experience with automated data processing systems in the installation of computers, printers, communication devices, video surveillance, detection systems, servers, or office automation software in a LAN or WAN environment.
  • 3. Experience in current version of Windows operating system providing technical support or maintenance in a customer service environment preferred.
  • 4. CompTIA Network+ Certification may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • 5. Cisco CCNA Certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • 6. Corning Fiber Installation (CFI) and Corning Fiber Testing and Troubleshooting (CTT) or equivalent manufacturer certification may beodynamics substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined by state law.
  • B. Knowledge and Skills
  • 1. Knowledge of network facilities and data processing techniques and equipment.
  • 2. Knowledge of a variety of computer application programs and their applicability to computer systems operations.
  • 3. Knowledge of information systems performance monitoring and capacity management tools.
