Our client is seeking a Senior Business Data Scientist to serve as a critical liaison between commercial teams, IT, regulatory, and operations. This role combines system ownership, analytics, project leadership, and stakeholder support. Ideal candidates are passionate about leveraging data to drive informed decisions and operational excellence within the energy sector
The Senior Business Data Scientist Lead contributes directly to the company’s mission of delivering energy solutions that are safe, efficient, and responsive to market and regulatory needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 24/7 internal and external customer support (role-specific), acting as a frontline buffer between users and IT to validate system-related issues
- Identify, log, track, test, and prioritize system defects based on customer impact and compliance risk
- Serve as project lead for system enhancements, including requirements gathering, testing plans, implementation, and post-launch support
- Drive collaboration across commercial teams, IT, regulatory, rates, and operations to deliver effective system and process solutions
- Design and develop prototypes and proof‑of‑concepts for modeling, data mining, and production use
- Develop and support analytical tools that enable teams to evaluate historical data, identify trends, improve processes, and predict customer behavior
- Act as a change agent by helping define and improve business processes, procedures, and workflows
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned systems and functional areas
- Lead business‑side ownership of data visualization, analytics, and system enhancements
- Support revenue budgeting, forecasting, and monthly reporting for stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in the oil & gas / energy industry
- Experience leading or influencing cross‑functional teams with competing priorities
- Strong understanding of scheduling and contracting processes (pre‑flow, flow, post‑flow)
- Ability to extract and analyze complex data from relational databases
- Strong statistical analysis skills
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables) and/or Power BI proficiency
- Experience with machine learning‑based tools is a plus
