Our client is seeking a Business Data Scientist III (functionally acting as a Commercial Data Analyst – Energy/Gas Scheduling/EBB Systems
) to support mission‑critical commercial operations by combining gas scheduling expertise, EBB systems knowledge, and data analytics to drive operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and commercial decision‑making. You will serve as the bridge between Commercial, IT, Regulatory, and Operations, ensuring systems, processes, and data flows operate reliably and continuously.

This is a hands‑on, high‑visibility role for someone who understands pre‑flow, flow, and post‑flow processes and can translate operational needs into system enhancements, analytics, and business solutions.

Responsibilities:

Commercial Operations & System Support

• Provide support for mission‑critical commercial systems, including 24/7 coverage as needed for operational continuity.
• Serve as the primary liaison between business users and IT, validating issues, logging defects, coordinating testing, and ensuring timely resolution.
• Act as the business lead for enhancements to EBB systems, data visualization tools, and analytics platforms.

EBB & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure EBB systems operate in compliance with tariffs, rates, and regulatory requirements.
• Support system changes required for commercial growth, expansions, and new service offerings.
• Partner with Commercial, Business Development, and Regulatory teams to ensure system readiness for new projects.

Data Analytics & BI Development

• Design and develop analytical tools, dashboards, and reports using Excel, Power BI, and relational databases.
• Build prototypes, models, and data mining solutions to support commercial strategy and customer behavior insights.
• Provide monthly reporting, forecasting support, and revenue analytics for internal stakeholders.

Process Improvement & Leadership

• Develop and document procedures, testing plans, and operational guidelines.
• Lead cross‑functional projects to improve workflows, business processes, and system functionality.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for scheduling, contracting, and EBB‑related functional areas.

Qualifications/Must Haves:

• Strong experience with Power BI or similar BI tools.
• High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to pivot quickly between topics and manage multiple priorities.
• Hands‑on experience with EBB systems (public or proprietary)
• Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, macros, complex formulas)
• Ability to extract and analyze complex data from relational databases.
• Experience performing statistical analysis and developing data‑driven insights.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field (Masters preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage competing priorities.
• 6+ years of experience in the energy industry, specifically oil & gas or midstream.
• Strong understanding of scheduling and contracting processes (pre‑flow, flow, post‑flow)
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues into business language.
• Collaborative mindset with experience working across Commercial, IT, and Regulatory teams.

Preferred

Skills:

• Background in regulatory compliance, tariffs, or rates.
• Experience supporting 24/7 mission‑critical commercial systems.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts or tools (plus, not required)
• Experience in large enterprise or regulated midstream environments.
