Job Description Summary

We are seeking an experienced and energetic Bartender with five+ years of experience. The bartender must be a spirit expert and responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hotel by accomplishing performance objectives that cover the hotel's social venues. The bartender sets up, services, and breaks down the bar area, ensuring a high level of quality, consistency, and service.

Qualifications, Education or Licenses
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • TABC Card required
  • Food Handler Certificate required
  • 5+ years in a restaurant, bar, or hospitality guest service position
  • Must speak, read, write and understand English clearly and fluently
Essential Elements
  • Ability to adhere to Sonesta Hotel grooming standards.
  • Ability to constantly lift and move approximately 40 pounds, including setting and storing in overhead areas.
  • Ability to push/pull a loaded beverage cart weighing approximately 200 pounds, including up and down inclines.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb and reach on a daily basis.
  • Ability to move freely within the bar area.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to stand or walk on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring sustained repetitive motion, (for example pouring drinks,) and/or fine motor skills.
  • Ability to communicate with guests and be able to direct them to the various facilities and functions within the hotel.
  • Ability to properly maintain and operate equipment, (for example blenders, dishwashing equipment).
  • Ability to interact with guests and other employees in a courteous, empathetic, and discreet manner.
  • Ability to carry out all safety and emergency procedures, for example fire, crowd control, inclement weather, and bomb threats.
  • Ability to handle cash and credit transactions.
  • Ability to effectively utilize point of sale equipment.
  • Ability to read and write effectively.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including the use of percentages.
  • Ability to work with chemicals, (for example cleaners and disinfectants), and with prolonged exposure to water.
  • Not infected by diseases transmitted through the food supply as designated by the Public Health Services.
  • Ability to sustain direct contact with the public; must establish a high degree of customer service, (smile, eye contact, positive personal presentation, etc.,) and high volume of interaction with guests and staff.
Job Tasks
  • Responsible for proper set-up and presentation of the bar area.
  • Responsible for the accurate requisition of liquor, beer, and wine from the purchasing department.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate par levels at the bar.
  • Responsible for proper collection and tally of all sales in accordance with the checkout procedure.
  • To follow all drink recipes written in the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston standard beverage manual.
  • To constantly maintain bar area as clean and orderly as possible.
  • To function responsibly in a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • To be familiar with other aspects of the hotel in order to provide guest information and guest satisfaction.
  • To maintain excellent work habits which ensure hospitable service.
  • Checking for the cleanliness of the bar and service area.
  • To perform other work-related duties as assigned by Management.
