Position Title: Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment
Department: Anatomic Pathology
Division: Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
Reports to: Department Chair

This is a faculty position responsible to the Chair of the Department of Anatomic Pathology, who reports to the Head of the Division of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.
Responsibilities- Patient Care
- Assume diagnostic patient care responsibilities by (a) serving as a surgical pathologist in subspecialty rotations, and (b) integrating results of microscopic and non-microscopic molecular tests into diagnostic and clinically relevant information
- Visually review, evaluate and interpret medical records, patient data, specimen makeup, and test results; correlate with clinical research findings
- Ensure Quality Control standards are implemented and that the laboratory complies with CAP, JCAHO, FDA, Medicare, and CLIA regulations
- Rotate and travel to Northwest Surgical & Specialty Care Center and/or other Houston area locations for clinical service
- Administrative
- Provide theoretical guidance and technical assistance to laboratory personnel
- Interview applicants, evaluate laboratory personnel, and make hire, terminate, promotion and merit recommendations
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field of Neuropathology and general surgical pathology
- Research and Development
- Develop and maintain an independent research program preferred; collaborate with investigators at MDACC and externally
- Design, execute, interpret and publish scientific data; contribute to grant applications
- Demonstrate scholarly activity and potential for external recognition
This position has a target base salary of $251,093 to $292,708 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
Qualifications§ MD or DO degree in a field appropriate to department mission
§ Licensed to practice in Texas
§ Must be Board certified (or obtained within departmental timeline), unless exempted
§ Current CPR or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
ExperienceGenerally 2 years as Instructor or 5 years post clinical degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships)
- Must be able to present lectures using visual aids to faculty, fellows, and technical personnel
- Must be able to train fellows, post-doctoral fellows, medical students, technologists and laboratory personnel
- Shows promise as an educator with the ability to educate and mentor in classrooms or one-to-one settings
- Participate as an editor, grant, and/or manuscript reviewer
- Participate in lectures for external courses, CME, and Grand Rounds
- Participate in off-site conferences
- Represent MDACC at outside conferences, events, and/or functions
This position requires:
- Working in Office Environment
- Working in Patient Care Unit (e.g. Nursing unit; outpatient clinic)
