As a Radiation Therapist
, you will deliver precision radiation therapy to cancer patients, work with a multidisciplinary team, ensure safe and accurate treatments, and provide compassionate care. Your expertise supports our reputation for high-quality cancer care.

Primary

Purpose:

Provide skilled work administering a prescribed course of radiation therapy, maintain treatment records, and monitor patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Key Functions
  • Administers safe and accurate radiation therapy treatment.
Clinical Practice Management
  • Ensure accurate treatment delivery and data capture; demonstrate sound clinical judgment and adherence to treatment and simulation delivery.
  • Gather setup aids and prepare room and equipment for patient.
  • Maintain treatment and simulation records and data; set appropriate treatment unit parameters.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity to operate complex radiation-emitting treatment units; work under stress and pressure.
  • Adapt to schedule changes and department needs based on patient load.
  • Visually monitor patients for reactions and report to the radiation oncologist as needed.
  • Explain procedures to patients, answer questions, refer to other specialists when needed, and reinforce oncologist guidance.
  • Perform and maintain Quality Assurance activities.
Quality Assurance Management
  • Comply with departmental QA practices.
  • Verify consent forms are in the treatment record and signed before administering treatment.
  • Monitor daily treatment records and machine QA; follow portal image review/approval guidelines and adjust field placement as required.
  • Notify physics/engineering if measurements fall outside parameters; report equipment issues to supervisor/engineering.
  • Check prescription, setup instructions, and records for discrepancies; attend planning clinic as assigned.
  • Perform, monitor, and document mandatory quality control activities; maintain competency management.
Competency Management
  • Maintain and demonstrate appropriate clinical skills to support treatment and simulation delivery.
  • Maintain base competencies and accurate documentation of competency criteria.
  • Engage in ongoing education (lectures, seminars, in-services) to stay current with techniques and licensure requirements.
  • Demonstrate professional behaviors and participate in competency assessments; work within scope of practice.
  • Participate in clinical instruction/evaluation.
Education And Training Management
  • Participate in practitioner/student education and assessment; share knowledge with students and peers.
  • Participate in departmental/institutional learning initiatives and in-services.
  • Orient and teach new students/therapists rotating to the treatment unit.
  • Participate in monthly evaluations of students (cognitive, affective, psychomotor).
  • Adhere to departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures; complete variance forms and follow up within 24 hours.
  • Adhere to all departmental policies on radiation therapy treatment, attendance, and dress code.
  • Utilize resources and manage supplies and equipment effectively; collaborate with staff.
  • Willing to take instruction, discipline, and guidance; show initiative to complete improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Required:

    Graduate of a JRCERT-accredited program in Radiation Therapy or equivalent.
Work Experience
  • Preferred: 2 years of experience as a licensed Radiation Therapist.
Licenses And Certifications
  • Required:

    RTT (Radiation Therapist) certification and ARRT registration in Radiation Therapy. Upon Hire.
  • Required:

    GMRT (General Medical Radiologic Technologist) license by the Texas Medical Board. Upon Hire.
