Overview
Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. This full-time position works four, 10-hour shifts per week from 9:00am-7:30pm, rotating days and works some weekends, plus call.
At Houston Methodist, the Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist I position completes a variety of routine diagnostic and vascular ultrasound procedures, including common and special ultrasound exams of moderate complexity. This position provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special ultrasound/vascular procedures. The Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist I delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to ultrasound exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.
This position is a member of the direct patient care team.
EDUCATION
- Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
- Must have one of the following: ARDMS-RDCS; ARDMS-RDMS; ARDMS-RVT; CCI-RVS; CCI-RCS; ARRT-SON; ARDMS-RDMS-AB; ARDMS-RDMS-OB/GYN; ARDMS-BR
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions, especially regarding activities impacting patient or employee safety
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers with a customer service focus and positive language
- Basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems including Hospital/Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents
- Exhibits strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with all levels of the healthcare team and delivers excellent customer service
- Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, including organizing workflow and problem-solving
- Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team-focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information clearly.
- Uses peer-to-peer accountability toward department goals for retention and employee engagement.
- Communicates effectively with others to provide the highest quality service during every customer and patient encounter.
- Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures including common and special exams, and vascular ultrasound exams, using high-frequency sound waves to capture images.
- Proactively assesses and responds to patient needs to optimize care, image quality and experience, including positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications and limitations.
- Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
- Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level using verbal and non-verbal skills and appropriate terminology.
- Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures with proper sterile technique; maintains infection control standards and complies with safety policies.
- Reports near misses and input errors into the hospital safety system to improve processes and identify trends; contributes to corrective actions and quality/safety targets.
- Performs daily imaging equipment quality control (QC) to ensure equipment is safe and functional; reports malfunctions and initiates preventive maintenance as needed.
- Uses critical thinking to observe and address patient reactions or potential outcomes and seeks assistance as appropriate.
- Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enters charges at the time of service.
- Uses resources efficiently and manages time to prioritize daily tasks.
- Participates in department projects or shared governance activities and pursues ongoing education.
- Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a Technologist.
