Overview
General Statement Of Duties The Music Therapist is responsible for providing a broad range of clinical services to patients at Moody Neuro including implementing a comprehensive Music Therapy program. This includes assessing and treating the effects of illness or disability for improved functioning and independence in the cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral and physical domains. The Music Therapist programs and implements activities addressing goals;
serves as an interdisciplinary treatment team member; coordinates efforts with other therapy team members; attends treatment team and weekly staff meetings; and completes discharge planning. The Music Therapist is responsible for providing written documentation and verbal communication regarding services in a timely, organized, and clear manner. The Music Therapist develops and maintains relationships with other professionals and community agencies. The Music Therapist upholds the mission, philosophy and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and patient data and information in the performance of assigned duties.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Completes a Music Therapy assessment and provides a written summary of evaluation.
- Provides verbal feedback to patient, family, referral source, and others involved in the care of the patient regarding results of the evaluation and recommendations.
- Develops appropriate treatment goals; writes treatment plan as appropriate.
- Delivers a variety of appropriate Music Therapy activities which fulfill a patient’s social, cognitive, language, emotional, and physical needs and interests in both individual and group format.
- Maintains accurate records of each therapy session and monthly progress.
- Develops, implements, and coordinates specialized program activities.
- Communicates patient’s progress to the team during weekly rounds and as needed through written and verbal exchanges.
- Communicates results of patient’s progress during monthly IPP meetings with family, patient, payee source, and team.
- Completes discharge paperwork and make appropriate referrals in accordance with Moody Neuro policy.
- Follows and implements behavioral contract guidelines as needed.
- Assists in the day to day operation of the Music/Speech Department.
- Develops and maintains relationships with peers, professional and community contacts.
- Works directly with all departments in an effort to address patient’s music therapy needs.
- Supervises and evaluates Music Therapy Interns (as needed).
- Attends department and Moody Neuro staff meetings.
- Participates in process improvement activities as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned which may include (but not limited to) providing leisure skills screenings and activities which may be provided on or off-campus.
Qualifications
Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in music therapy principles / techniques and psychology.
