Overview
Come lead with us Houston Methodist, the System Float Pool Sr Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is an experienced and competent therapist who performs advanced procedures as assigned, including but not limited to intubation, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), electromagnetic navigation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This position participates in developing and teaching in-services/programs for respiratory staff, quality improvement initiatives, research programs, and departmental committees or subcommittees.
The Sr RCP mentors and resources Respiratory Care team members and students to help train and achieve optimum performance in specialized areas such as ICU and NICU. The role works independently, exercising sound judgment and above-average clinical skills on challenging procedures and patient care situations. The System Float Pool Sr RCP may coordinate activities within the Respiratory department and is expected to float to multiple Houston Methodist sites as needed.

QualificationsEducation
- Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section
Experience
- Four years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, of which at least two are at a critical care level (preferred at HMCCH). May consider HM employee with at least three years of RCP experience with one year as an HM RCP.
- Neonatal experience preferred

Required
- RCP – Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner – Texas state licensure
- RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC)
- BLS – Basic Life Support (or Instructor)
- ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or Instructor)
- NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation (or Instructor)
Preferred
- PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (or Instructor)
- RRT-ACCS – Respiratory Therapist Adult Critical Care Specialist
- NPS – Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist
- CPFT – Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist
- RPFT – Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist
- RRT-SDS – Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorder Specialty
- AE-C – Certified Asthma Educator
- TTS – Tobacco Treatment Specialist
- RPSGT – Registered Polysomnographer Technologist
- Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, assessed through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions, especially where safety is impacted
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers with a customer service focus
- Basic computer knowledge; able to operate multiple systems to maintain patient and exam documents
- Ability to work independently; handle challenging procedures and patient care situations with sound judgment
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; delivers excellent customer service to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers
- Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision; organizes workflow and participates in problem-solving

Service Essential Functions
- Provides patient teaching based on learning needs and plans for post-discharge care; evaluates patient comprehension and adjusts methods accordingly.
- Serves as the primary therapist for advanced treatments such as intubation, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, EBUS, electromagnetic navigation, ECMO, and more.
