Lab Technician; Night Shift - Data Collection

Starling, a Y Combinator-backed digital health and medical device company, is pioneering the world’s first at-home urine sensing remote patient monitoring platform. Based in Houston, Texas, our mission is to seamlessly integrate health monitoring into daily life by detecting changes in urine composition over time. By leveraging spectrophotometry, we aim to improve patient outcomes and reduce hospitalization rates for chronic conditions such as recurrent UTIs.

We are seeking a meticulous and organized Lab Technician to join our team at JLABS in the Texas Medical Center and play a crucial role in our data collection efforts.

The Lab Technician will be responsible for the accurate and efficient processing and data collection using our proprietary spectroscopy-based device. This role involves meticulous data collection, adhering to strict Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and maintaining detailed records. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with our data science team.

Hourly rate: $22-$27 depending on experience

• Performs established experimental workflows analyzing clinical samples with basic analysis techniques (e.g. UV-Vis spectroscopy, dip-sticks, etc.)
• Receive, label, and prepare samples according to established protocols.
• Perform routine quality control checks and maintain accurate records of quality control data.
• Adhere to strict Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) throughout all laboratory activities.
• Maintain organized and accurate laboratory records, including sample logs, data sheets, and equipment maintenance records.
• Work closely with the data science team to ensure seamless data transfer and analysis.
• Set-up, operation, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Medical Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Proven experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably with experience in clinical or biological research laboratories.
• Experience working with human biological specimens.
• Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Experience with UV-Vis spectroscopy or similar analytical techniques is a plus.
