Job Summary

The Cardiac Monitor Technician II (CMT II) proficiently performs continuous observation and analysis of ECG patterns for patients on telemetry. The CMT II notifies the appropriate nursing staff and physicians within a designated hospital unit of changes from baseline, abnormal heart rhythm patterns, and abnormal ECG interval measurements. The CMT II takes a leadership role in rhythm interpretation, dysrhythmia recognition, and continuous education of assigned CMT I.

The CMT II is competent in medical terminology and possesses technical, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The CMT II demonstrates and role models personal and professional effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:

  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED and completion of Cardiac Monitor Technician training course or equivalent coursework (i.e. Electrocardiography course) from an accredited school or accredited online program required or completion of Cardiac Monitor Tech training course from an accredited school required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required upon hire or Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT)
    • Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross approved program.
    • Other certificates as required by unit/service.

Work Experience:

Two (2) years centralized cardiac monitoring experience in a hospital required.

Completes CBCOT modules one, two and three (1, 2 &
3) within the six (6) week orientation period.
