Overview
The Senior Chaplain in the Department of Spiritual Care and Education at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff and mentors clinical spiritual education programs as a member of the interdisciplinary team at our Houston Area locations.
Responsibilities- Provide direct spiritual care and education to patients, family members, staff, and volunteers; evaluate, plan, and coordinate spiritual care coverage, including on‑call.
- Respond to all referrals for spiritual care and advance directives according to triage guidelines; respond to code blue calls and deaths by providing a calm presence.
- Build relationships and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team; serve as a subject‑matter expert to medical residents and students.
- Provide chapel leadership and sacramental ministry; lead support groups as needed.
- Graduate level theological degree.
- At least two years of experience as a professional chaplain or spiritual care educator; experience in a clinical setting is required.
- Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) by any recognized certification organization.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
