The Clinical Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) provides clinical nutrition services to patients within their individual scope of practice and demonstrated competence, under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in accordance with the policies and procedures for Clinical Nutrition Services (CNS) outlined by Harris Health System's Correctional Health division. The DTR utilizes the Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT) to assist with assessing nutrition status and developing and implementing nutrition care plans for patients at nutrition risk.
The DTR provides nutrition education and applies evidence‑based nutrition practice guidelines, instructional methods and tools when participating in direct patient care. The DTR maintains productivity standards and practices, effective time management to prioritize tasks, and uses department resources prudently. He or she also participates in compliance and quality performance improvement efforts to ensure that nutrition care is safe and effective.
- Degrees: Associate’s Degree from an accredited university or college and completion of required coursework and supervised practice through a nutrition and dietetics technician program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Compliance with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. - Work Experience: One (1) year of work experience with Dietetics/Nutrition preferred.

All required nutrition competencies need to be completed within 90 days of hire. - Advanced Degrees: Master’s in a nutrition‑related field may count for one year of experience. PhD in a nutrition‑related field may count for two years of experience.
