Ideal Candidate
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience in a retail, infusion, or hospital setting.
  • Preferably 1 year of IV sterile preparation experience and ACPE IV Sterile Products Competency.
Working Hours

12:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.

Role Highlights

Our ATC Pharmacy team is the heart of outpatient cancer care at MD Anderson, supporting high-volume infusion treatments and complex chemotherapy regimens in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment. You will collaborate closely with nurses and physicians to deliver timely, accurate medication for same-day treatments.

Daily Operational Duties
  • Equipment maintenance: BSC cleaning, stocking supplies, balance maintenance, pump retrieval, scheduled QA assignments, cleaning of IV rooms and ante-room, inventory ordering, Pyxis support, and Baxa repeater pump cleaning.
IV Preparation
  • Follow SOPs and safety standards (USP 797, USP 800, NIOSH) when handling, preparing, and disposing of hazardous drugs.
  • Report and document chemotherapy spills.
  • Use closed system correctly and maintain competency.
  • Prepare investigational doses by:
    • Reading the datasheet.
    • Following protocol directions.
    • Exercising care during admixing.
    • Documenting thoroughly on investigational cards.
    • Consulting a pharmacist when needed.
  • Complete annual or semi-annual process validations.
  • Demonstrate strong pharmacy math skills and manage time efficiently with high productivity.
  • Maintain system proficiency, including BD Cato, Phacts, One Connect, and controlled‑access cabinets.
Sterile Compounding / Preparation
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous sterile preparation.
  • Investigational drug preparation (Phase 1, 2, 3).
  • Viral/BCG/vaccine preparation.
  • Intrathecal preparations.
  • Ambulatory pumps.
  • High‑risk sterile validation.
Requirements

Education

  • Required:

    High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred:
    Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
  • Preferred:
    Two years of college credit.

Work Experience

  • Required:

    2 years Pharmacy Technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy.

Licenses and Certification

  • Required:

    PHTR – Reg Pharmacy Technician Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). Upon hire.
  • Preferred: CPHT – Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB). Upon hire.
  • Preferred:
    Current IV‑Sterile Medication Certification (ACPE). Upon hire.
  • Other:
    Must pass pre‑employment skills test as required.
Compensation
  • Minimum Salary: USD 49,500
  • Midpoint Salary: USD 62,000
  • Maximum Salary: USD 74,500
  • FLSA: non‑exempt, eligible for overtime pay.
