Primary
Purpose:
Responsible for assessment of language functioning and/or communication disorders, the impact of these disorders on the student’s ability to benefit from instruction, and development and implementation of intervention strategies to reduce or eliminate this interference. Provide consultation to teachers, parents, support personnel, community agencies, and other resource personnel concerning individual educational plan design, implementation, and evaluation, and development of appropriate learning/instructional strategies and access to needed services.
Qualifications /
Skills:
- Valid Texas License in Speech Language Pathology or Texas Education Agency certification.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (preferred).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in technology usage.
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Assessment: Schedule, plan, and administer appropriate assessment strategies; prepare written assessment reports according to district guidelines and timelines; provide consultation to students to identify potential speech/language impairments and offer strategies to support learning and communication skills.
- Intervention: Plan and implement appropriate intervention strategies using flexible models of service delivery; evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services; provide consultation for regular and special education teachers; schedule and coordinate Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings according to district guidelines.
- Program Management: Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and documents; comply with federal, state, and local policies; supervise SLP assistants or interns per district and board guidelines.
- Professional Growth and Development: Participate in professional development activities; maintain license and ASHA certification with required professional development.
- Communication: Maintain positive relationships with supervisors and staff; communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents; uphold district confidentiality procedures.
- Other: Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used: Computer, ACTIV Board, copy machine, and audiovisual machines.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; this position requires regular in‑person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks and equipment; physical capacity for students with disabilities.
