Senior Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient

Overview

Our Inpatient Pharmacy team delivers comprehensive and high‑quality medication distribution services across the hospital. We manage all aspects of inpatient drug delivery—including unit dose dispensing, IV admixture preparation, and specialized systems for controlled substances and investigational drugs. We leverage automation and robotic dispensing technology to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety at every step.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and distribute medications, including cart fill, first dose distribution, and controlled access cabinet refills.
  • Prepare sterile products (SVP, LVP, chemotherapy, biotherapy, investigational agents), high‑risk sterile products, and extemporaneous compounds.
  • Repackage bulk medications and perform inventory management functions such as ordering, receiving, restocking, cycle counts, and audits.
  • Remove expired or soon‑to‑expire medications in a timely manner and ensure medication security and accountability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Inventory Management

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required License / Certification: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Preferred Licenses /

Certifications:

Current Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification;
Current Intravenous Medication Certification (IV‑Sterile Products) approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Required Experience: Two years of pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy.

Preferred Experience: Hazardous sterile compounding, high‑risk sterile compounding, non‑sterile compounding, inventory management, pharmacy employee training, OR, critical care, pediatrics, ordering/receiving medications, and controlled substances.

This position may involve maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, requiring routine reviews and screening.
