The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide direct professional occupational therapy services to our patients in the inpatient hospital.

Cancer and its treatments can sometimes have lasting effects on daily performance including physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning. The Department of Rehabilitation Services has more than 100 oncology rehabilitation professionals and staff dedicated to optimizing the physical abilities and quality of life of people affected by cancer. Rehabilitation Services offers physical therapy and occupational therapy for patients of all ages and with any type of cancer who are experiencing problems related to cancer or the side effects of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation treatment.

Rehabilitation services are available to all MD Anderson patients who need help regaining physical function.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in Occupational Therapy and three years of Occupational Therapy experience, preferably in an outpatient setting. Must have a current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Texas issued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners. The candidate must be available to work Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm to include a 1 hour lunch.

One weekend day required per month, with a flex day during the week.

Salary Range

Minimum: $101,000 - Midpoint: $126,500 - Maximum: $152,000

Essential

Job Functions
  • Conducts patient consultation, evaluation, program planning and treatment to restore function, relieve pain, promote healing, prevent disability and/or facilitate adaptation to permanent disability.
  • Reviews patient referrals and medical records.
  • Contributes to performance improvement and quality management tasks.
  • Participates in patient and student education.
  • Assists in orientation of new employees and volunteers.
  • Contributes to staff development or community education by presenting education in‑services or community presentations.
  • Participates in the cross‑training program, demonstrating competencies in at least two different services or through attainment of specialty certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education Required

Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.

Experience Required

Three years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.

Experience Preferred

Three years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably an acute care setting.

Licenses/Certifications Required

Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Texas issued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR).
