The West Houston Pharmacy provides comprehensive oncology‑focused pharmaceutical services to support MD Anderson’s mission of delivering exceptional cancer care. Ideal Candidate

High School Diploma and 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience in a retail, infusion, or hospital setting. Pharmacy experience in a variety of specialized areas and functions. Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Working Hours

10:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Job Specific Competencies
  • Follows SOP/safety standards (USP 797/800/NIOSH) when handling, preparing, and waste disposal of hazardous drugs; reports and documents chemotherapy spills.
  • Demonstrates correct use of a closed system and maintains competency.
  • Prepares investigational doses by reading datasheet, following protocol directions, being careful during admixing and documenting thoroughly on the investigational card for each drug; asks for assistance from a pharmacist if needed.
  • Demonstrates strong math skills for pharmacy calculations.
  • Manages time efficiently by maintaining high productivity.
  • Demonstrates system proficiency including BD Cato, Phacts, One Connect and control‑access cabinets.
  • Manages inventory through supply chain.
Inventory Management
  • Monitors key inventory parameters to evaluate usage including stock levels, shortages, and recalls; takes appropriate actions and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Develops, implements, and documents procedures related to receiving, shipping, transfers, returns of inventory, physical counts, ongoing cycle counts and loss prevention.
  • Coordinates with appropriate suppliers for acquisition and distribution of drugs/supplies, identifies supply problems, and communicates drug availability to staff.
  • Communicates with other inventory areas to minimize waste.
  • Maintains inventory security within the pharmacy area and monitors for appropriate use of all institutional resources.
  • Approaches problems with curiosity and open‑mindedness; offers new ideas, solutions and/or options.
  • Completes pump assignments including replenishment, returns, cleaning and periodic maintenance (PM) monitoring within 95% compliance.
  • Restocks, loads, unloads and updates automated dispensing cabinet inventory consistently and accurately; provides floor stock inventory as needed.
Daily Operational Duties
  • Equipment maintenance: BSC cleaning, stocking supplies, pump retrieval, scheduled QA assignments, cleaning of IV rooms and ante‑room, inventory ordering, pyxis support as needed, and water bath and automatic‑pump cleaning.
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency and problem‑solving of carousel software, automated dispensing cabinets, BD CATO, One Connect, procurement software, label printers, refrigerator monitoring and other systems as needed.
  • Successfully completes annual process validations as appropriate.
  • Completes and maintains Tech‑Check‑Tech certification program as applicable.
  • Optimizes patient care and customer service by fulfilling all required operational responsibilities including staffing beyond shift as needed to complete all team assignments.
  • Ability to flex schedule across areas and shifts based on operational needs.
