Summary
The Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is seeking a full-time, on-site Research Coordinator I to support hepatology-focused research within the Harris Health System. This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of clinical research studies, working closely with an experienced investigator. The coordinator will engage directly with study participants, guiding them through screening, enrollment, and ensuring compliance with study protocols.
This position offers opportunities for professional growth over time. It is a good fit for candidates who are self-directed, enthusiastic about clinical research, and willing to be trained and perform duties that they may not have performed in the past. Spanish fluency is strongly preferred. This is an on-site position with standard business hours; however, flexibility is required as there may be occasional early start times (e.g., 7:30 AM for patient visits) and instances where staying beyond 5:00 PM may be necessary to support patient care or study needs.
- Interviews, screens, and recruits patients for research studies focused on liver diseases.
- Educates participants about study processes and procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained in accordance with protocol guidelines.
- Collects patient information through electronic medical record review, surveys, interviews, and direct measurements such as vital signs, anthropometrics, and EKGs.
- May perform venipuncture and Fibroscan following appropriate training/certification.
- Processes documentation and enters both qualitative and quantitative data into secure databases.
- Collects, processes, ships, and maintains paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens per study protocol.
- Maintains accurate records and regulatory documentation for all assigned research studies.
- Assists with institutional review board activities.
- Coordinates and schedules participant procedures including labs, imaging, and site‑specific tests.
- Ensures participants complete all required study visits.
- Retrieves, records, and distributes test results in a timely manner.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Spanish language fluency.
- Familiarity with Excel, statistical software.
