Postdoctoral Research Fellow – CTCR, The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine

UTHealth Houston – Texas

The Lyu Lab is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a well‑funded research program focused on cancer stress responses, proteostasis, and cancer therapeutic resistance. The lab is supported by funding from CPRIT and UTHealth, providing an exceptional platform for innovative basic and translational cancer research.

Dr. Xiangdong Lyu, a tenure‑track assistant professor in 2025, oversees the lab. He has a Ph.D. from the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a B.S. from Shandong University. Prior research includes DOD Breakthrough Fellowship work at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Research focus:
Define molecular mechanisms that drive tumorigenesis and resistance to targeted therapy and chemotherapy, aiming to develop mechanism‑based strategies to overcome these resistances.

Position Summary

A biomedical postdoc position providing early‑career researchers opportunities to gain experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to scientific knowledge.

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Plan and conduct experiments, analyze data, and prepare publications describing results.
  • Assist in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
  • Read and evaluate literature.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Hold a recent Ph.D. and/or M.D., with a preferred background in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and/or cancer biology.
  • Doctoral/Terminal Degree required.
  • Exercisable of up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
