Job Summary
Urology Surgical Assistant, Days – Full time; 6:30am-3pm (Mon-Fri). Call required. Certification from National Surgical Assistants Association or Association of Surgical Technologists or National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required. BLS (American Heart Association) required. 3-5+ years of current surgical tech experience preferred; urology experience preferred. This position will not function as a normal Surgical Assistant; will be responsible for managing internal urology service-line needs under direct supervision of the hiring manager (ordering, communication with reps, facilitating and coordinating service-line needs, communication with physician partners, ancillary departments—material management, SPD, and not limited to other tasks and duties).
Will be required to scrub as needed.
Location:
Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.
- Assists physicians in performing surgical procedures by providing support such as exposure, homeostasis, retracting tissues, clamping and tying vessels to control bleeding, keeping the operative site dry, closing the incision by applying sutures and wound dressings.
- Assists in transporting patients when required.
- Assists other members of the surgical team, including the anesthesiologist, anesthetist, operating room nurses and recovery room nurses as necessary.
- Assists in preparing the operating room for cases.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

- Education:
Graduate of a surgical technology program. - Licenses/Certifications:
Certification from National Surgical Assistants Association, Association of Surgical Technologists, or National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). - Experience / Knowledge /
