We’re searching for a Certified Surgical Technologist II, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure, assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in an age-appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN).
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Performs patient care related duties.
- Prepares and assists with the preparation of the operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of the patient and the surgical procedure.
- Applies knowledge of surgical pathology as related to the planned surgical intervention.
- Awareness of high‑risk groups for latex allergy.
- Prepares special equipment, such as implants, prostheses, instrumentation per procedure/preferences, and medications.
- Anticipates the surgeon’s needs and ensures supplies are opened or available cost‑effectively, referencing the preference card as needed.
- Attends and participates in in‑services and other continuing education opportunities to maintain professional development.
- Maintains correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments according to policy and procedure 100% of the time as observed by the circulating nurse.
- Assists in the care and labeling of specimens 100% of the time as observed by the circulating nurse.
- Participates in the proper handling of medications within the sterile field to enhance patient safety.
- Prepares O.R. equipment and supplies while performing patient‑care related duties age‑appropriately.
- Demonstrates effective time‑management skills.
- Cares for neonatal, infant, toddler, preschool, school‑age, adolescent, and adult patients routinely.
- Undergoes respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

- Education:
Completion of an educational program for surgical technologists. Eligible programs include military or U.S. Public Health Service training. - Certification: CST‑SUR – Certified Surgical Technologist, National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; TSC‑NCCT – Certified Surgical Tech, National Center for Competency Testing.
- Experience:
2+ years as a surgical technologist and experience in at least two surgical specialties.
The Surgical Technologist will prepare and assist with the operating room setup, handle instruments and supplies during surgical procedures, and provide patient care in an age‑appropriate manner. They will also maintain safety protocols and assist in the care of specimens.
