SummaryThe Biochemical Genetic Technologist III is responsible for performing biochemical genetics tests with efficiency and accuracy. This role will develop and validate clinical mass spectrometry assays, maintain laboratory QA/QC compliances, and improve workflow efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform multiple biochemical genetics testing such as Tay-Sachs, enzyme, amino acid analysis, LC/MS/MS, GC/MS/MS and data entry daily.
- Sample processing and determining acceptability for downstream application.
- Monitor pending lists to ensure timely reporting.
- Adhere to company QC/QA policies and maintain documentation of control ranges, instrument calibrations and maintenance, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Monitor, operate, and participate in troubleshooting of complex instrumentation.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
- Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and reagents required for testing and communicate with the supervisor to ensure timely ordering and delivery.
- Maintain good communication with team and supervisor on any issues pertaining to the workflow.
- Maintain compliance with CAP, NY, and CLIA regulations.
- Adhere to code of conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Master’s or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science preferred. - ASCP certification preferred.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with LC/MS/MS, GC/MS/MS or metabolomics method development, validation, and data analysis preferred.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Proficiency with genetic disease and diagnostic databases and bioinformatic tools.
- Multitasking and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Frequently required to sit.
- Frequently required to stand.
- Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
- Occasionally exposed to blood borne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials.
