Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – Mammography
Base pay range: $88,253.00/yr – $/yr
Summary – Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) – Mammography position assigned to the Michael
E. DeBakey VA Medical Center – Radiology Service – Mammography section.
Qualifications
- United States Citizenship;
Non-citizens only if no qualified citizens available. - English language proficiency required.
- Completion of at least 24 months full‑time diagnostic radiologic technology program (associate degree or certificate accredited by JRCERT or equivalent).
ARRT certification (R) required. - Advanced ARRT certification required for mammography assignments.
- Advanced certification indicates independent operation and demonstrated clinical competency.
- Mammography specialties require specific knowledge of breast imaging modalities, magnification and implant views, FDA guidelines, MQSA, and mammography quality standards act.
- Experience:
at least one year equivalent to next lower grade level (GS‑08) with demonstrated clinical competencies. - Knowledge, skills, and abilities: patient balancing, relevant medical record gathering, contraindication assessment, basic first aid, aseptic techniques, and universal precautions.
- Physical requirements:
typical for occupation; may require standing, lifting, carrying, sitting, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing; may require personal protective equipment and annual TB screening as conditions of employment.
Duties
- Perform complex mammography radiographic exams: screening and diagnostic mammography exams.
- Maintain quality and quantity of imaging examinations and ensure proficiency and compliance with all service, facility, and accreditation standards for breast imaging.
- Assist with organization and management of a comprehensive QA/QC program within the breast imaging section; support department during annual FDA/MQSA inspections.
- Collaborate with technologists, radiologists, clinicians, and clerical staff to assure optimum QC, efficient coordination, high quality diagnostic exam results, and patient satisfaction.
- Monitor and coordinate annual and semi‑annual equipment inspections and preventative maintenance with Biomedical Engineering; review and act upon recommendations.
- Support continuing education and certification monitoring for all breast imaging personnel.
