Pharmacist - Retail - Per Diem - Newton Medical Center

Job Description

• Working Knowledge: Ensure the workflow of the retail pharmacy is maintained efficiently. Ensure prescriptions are filled in a timely manner, maintain accurate patient profiles, adjudicate prescriptions, and act on rejections.
• Ordering & Inventory: Accurately order medications and supplies through approved vendors and maintain inventory appropriately.
• Checking: Accurately check prescriptions, correct patient profiles, and sign all related paperwork and labels.
• Profiling / Transcribing: Review patient profiles to assure appropriate therapy based on patient‑specific information including age, gender, diagnosis, comorbidities, labs, allergies, weight, pregnancy/lactation status, and BSA. Transcribe all medication orders accurately and timely, verify therapy, medication, route, dose, and frequency, and make recommendations for alternate treatments when necessary.
• Dispensing Medications: Dispense medications, prescriptions, and miscellaneous items accurately and promptly. Process requests via phone, window, fax, and computer professionally and in a timely manner. Obtain medications when needed to provide optimal patient care using economical or alternative options. Sign all paperwork and labels.
• Drug Information: Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, other health‑care professionals, and patients/families. Demonstrate knowledge of drug information resources and research & interpret data.
• Performance Improvement / Customer Satisfaction: Answer phones, windows, and doors promptly and courteously. Handle problems/issues independently. Seek opportunities for independent projects, teams, and committees. Maintain professionalism and assist patients, coworkers, and allied health professionals. Direct and monitor technicians when necessary to maintain workflow.

• Graduate from an accredited School of Pharmacy
• Current active registration and licensure with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy (required)
• Previous retail pharmacy experience (2+ years) preferred
• Previous retail pharmacy leadership role preferred
