Location and Schedule

Work Location: The Carruth Center at The Parish School

Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

Description

Speech-language pathologists evaluate, diagnose and treat individuals of all ages with speech and language disorders. One of our areas of expertise is the diagnosis and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) including the Kaufman‑Speech to Language Methods (K‑SLP) methodology. We also incorporate the Social Thinking framework into our one‑on‑one and group sessions with our clients. We are a clinic located on the campus of The Parish School and treat children at the school as well as children in the community who are diagnosed with SLI, Autism and other developmental delays.

Mission

The Carruth Center provides child‑centered, developmentally appropriate and impactful therapy services to children and their families through collaboration, meaningful connections and quality interventions. The Carruth Center is a non‑profit organization.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and evaluate speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors.
  • Plan, direct, or conduct therapeutic interventions to habilitate communicative skills of children with communication disorders.
  • Provide regular updates, counseling and guidance regarding speech and language disorders and therapy to individuals and their families.
  • Review individual files to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available.
  • Administer, score, and interpret specialized speech and language tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans for assigned clients to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Evaluate and monitor individuals throughout the therapeutic process.
  • Review treatment plan, and assess individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs.
  • Maintain records as required by law, establishment's policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Attend meetings and conferences and participate in other activities to promote professional growth.
  • Instruct individuals to monitor their own speech and provide ways to practice new skills.
  • Act as consultant to educational, medical, and other professional groups.
  • Serve as consultant to classroom teachers and others in the client’s community to incorporate speech and language development activities into daily schedule.
Skills / Education
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating apraxia of speech strongly preferred.
  • Training in Social Thinking techniques preferred.
  • Experience and expertise working with children on the autism spectrum.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
License
  • Current license as a Speech Pathologist in the state of Texas.
  • Graduate of Speech Pathologist program accredited by the American Speech‑Hearing Association and holds a certificate of clinical competence granted by the American Speech and Hearing Association (CCC‑SLP).
  • Current CPR Certification.
