The Counselor will provide clinical services for Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. Counselor will provide services to clients including completion of assessments, treatment planning, progress reports, treatment plan reviews, and discharge summaries. Counselor will also conduct group counseling, along with individual client meetings. Counselor will also document concise and timely reports of all clinically related duties and work with treatment team to ensure client needs are addressed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts group counseling sessions with clients.
  • Communicates key information and regularly collaborates with Community Supervision Officers.
  • Tracks compliance with drug and alcohol testing.
  • Participates in staffing cases with supervisors, peers, Community Supervision Officers, and the courts.
  • Maintains appropriate entries in the electronic systems.
  • Operates office equipment, computers, phones, etc., necessary for the work.
  • Completes documentation of daily work activities in relevant databases.
  • Provides case consultation to Community Supervision Officers regarding clients with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.
  • Monitors deadlines to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with policy, grant standards, funding and licensure requirements, special conditions of community supervision, and Community Justice Assistance Division (CJAD) general and substance abuse standards.
  • Participates in work groups as necessary.
  • Provides group instruction to clients.
  • Contribute to and help create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public.
  • Work overtime as required.

Licensure:

  • Must possess at least one (1) of the following licenses upon the start of employment:

    • Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A)

    • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)

    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A)

  • Must have a valid Texas Class C Automobile Operator’s License or Texas Identification Card.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) information.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • Regular Full-time
  • 5 days per week | Hours will range between: 8:00 A.M.

    - 9:00 P.M.
    • Flexibility in work schedule is required and determined by program needs.
    • Work overtime as required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. Travel between HCCSCD locations or off-site locations for meetings, training, group coverage, etc. is required as needed.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.
Salary

Monthly:
  • $$5,297.07 (=$30.56 Hourly) - $5,789.33 (=$33.40 Hourly)
  • Commensurate with Experience
  • Based on 26 pay periods
