Overview
Provides optimal nutritional care for patients receiving modified diets, instructs patients and/or families on prescribed diets using the American Dietetic Association Manual, and performs related duties as assigned. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary for age-specific needs of patients including neonatal, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
Position Responsibilities- Performs duties in a professional manner and with minimum supervision.
- Prepares PI reports/data on a regular basis; using this information as a resource to improve patient care.
- Delivers patient care services in a timely manner and conveys recommendations as necessary.
- Ensures that food preparation meets standards.
- Plans, organizes and implements projects.
- Assists in compliance of JCAHO standards and other regulatory standards.
- Investigates complaints and initiates corrective action.
- Maintains good interpersonal relationships with all hospital staff and peers.
- Maintains registration and licensure with the American Dietetic Association via in-services, seminars, etc.
- Interaction with Other Departments:
Physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel.
- Experience:
Has completed an Internship in hospital or other institution offering dietetic internship approved by the American Dietetic Association. Experience in institution work desirable. - Education:
B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college or university with a major in foods, nutrition, or institutional management. A Registered Dietitian (R.D.) and Licensed Dietitian in the State of Texas. If new graduate or from outside U.S. / R.D.E. with eligibility to sit for and pass exam within 90 days of hire, and submit application for Texas Licensure. - Special
Qualifications:
Possess knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served which include: - Age-specific nutritional needs
- Physiological factors affecting the ability to chew, swallow
- Assess and interpret data needed to identify age-specific nutritional needs
- Age-specific methods
- Provide age-specific communication appropriately involving family/significant other
