Overview
The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to join the Jail Diversion team. Collaborate with licensed nursing personnel and clinical treatment teams to provide direct care services to individuals with mental health and developmental disabilities, creating a safe and supportive environment. This role supports the future of mental wellness and advocacy.
Responsibilities- Promote a physically and emotionally safe environment, including ensuring regular rounds and patient and property searches to help patients focus on recovery
- Assist with basic patient care (eating, bathing, dressing) and teach/encourage daily living skills while observing progress for additional services or changes in treatment
- Provide behavioral emergency assistance, apply approved restraint procedures when needed, and recognize/report homicidal or suicidal behaviors
- Monitor and document behavior of patients in seclusion or on precautions
- Perform duties such as vital signs and specimen collection as delegated by nursing staff or a physician
- Utilize Standard Precautions to prevent infection
- Respect the rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality of others
- Work with trauma-informed approaches in interactions with staff, patients, and the community
- Assist with development of Psychiatric Technician I work schedules, daily assignments, and participate in hiring/training of others
- Facilitate communication between staff regarding patients needs
- Performs housekeeping duties as required
- Demonstrate a positive, professional work ethic and act as a role model for residents
- Comply with agency policies and regulatory requirements; maintain contract documentation
- Contribute to suicide care and prevention using trauma-informed principles of safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year of direct care experience in psychiatric or behavioral healthcare preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Understanding of Standard Precautions and Infection Control Procedures
- Knowledge of Handle with Care Crisis Intervention Techniques (HWC III)
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coordinate patient care with the treatment team
