POSITION OVERVIEW

Works in and maintains the lab area responsible for automated and manual DNA extraction procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with automated liquid handlers and other automation to complete daily extraction of DNA from incoming laboratory samples.
• Responsible for sample management and tracking through the department, including management of the automated storage system for storage and retrieval of extracted samples
• Performs quantification and quality assessment of samples as needed
• Assists with preparation and maintenance of reagent stocks
• Handles proper operation of automation for vial filling and sample sorting
• Monitors and maintains supply inventories
• Follows all laboratory procedures and policies, including quality control and quality system activities, and documents appropriately all records, deviations, and corrective actions as required
• Assists with troubleshooting issues with assays, equipment, or procedures
• Performs general laboratory maintenance, organization, and cleaning of the area
• Assists with other laboratory procedures as necessary, including:
• Receipt and accessioning of samples
• Manual DNA extractions of non-standard samples
• RNA extraction and Real-Time PCR assays for Respiratory Pathogen detection

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• 4- year Bachelor degree or higher a Biological Science or related field.
• Computer literacy of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
