Overview

Environmental Investigator position with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). This role is part of the Compliance and Enforcement division in the Houston Regional Office.

What you’ll be doing
  • Conduct technical inspections, surveys, and follow-up investigations; prepare reports documenting field activities and observed conditions.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and prepare technical papers regarding studies involving environmental subjects.
  • Provide technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and other interested groups regarding the application of appropriate regulations.
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing environmental samples.
Key qualifications
  • Experience interpreting rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Experience conducting environmental investigations.
Education and experience
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field (generally preferred, but not required).
  • Or four years of full-time experience in environmental activities directly related to the examples of work performed.
  • Note:

    Some positions may involve access to critical infrastructure; security or integrity of infrastructure may be a requirement to be hired and to continue employment with TCEQ.
  • Official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials may be required to meet qualifications.
Work schedule

Standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Schedule determined by the TCEQ Houston Region Office.
