this position’s headquarters is negotiable. minimum requirements
  • a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • six (6) months of experience as an environmental specialist i or higher with the state of florida.
  • one (1) year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, one of the physical or natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering.
  • requires possession of a valid class e driver license.

additional requirements

the incumbent will have regulatory responsibilities under chapter 60l-36, fac. Must obtain restricted-use pesticide license within six months of initial employment and maintain it thereafter. Must meet proper use of respirator and/or scba requirements and pass post-employment physical examinations for respirator and/or scba use.

headquarters is negotiable, territory includes columbia, hamilton, and suwannee counties. Must reside in negotiated headquarters or territory counties at time of employment and be willing to deploy from assigned headquarters for extended periods for incident response.

job duties
  • schedule and conduct inspections and sample collections per chapters 388, 482, 487, 576, 578, and 580, f.s., and rules 5e-1 through 5e-14, f.a.c. In accordance with policies.
  • conduct investigations in response to reports, complaints, violations, or suspicious matters to collect, summarize, and report evidence per regulatory requirements.
  • prepare and submit written and electronic reports timely and per policy.
  • issue corrective notices as necessary in accordance with department policy.
  • maintain knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations; read and interpret pesticide labels, regulations, and legal descriptions.
  • participate in coordinated enforcement activities with other department employees and agencies; statewide enforcement operations.
  • serve as department representative in administrative hearings, court proceedings, or meetings as necessary.
  • participate in bureau and division meetings and training courses as required.
  • participate in special projects and incident response activities; perform other duties as requested.
