Volunteer: Risk & Governance Committee Member - Empowerment Plus CLG

Overview

This role is suited to someone who wants to apply their governance and risk expertise in a meaningful, practical way, without the commitment of a full Board position.

As a member of the Risk & Governance Subcommittee, you will support the Board by providing independent oversight, constructive challenge, and informed advice on governance, risk, and compliance matters. The subcommittee is chaired by a Board member and works closely with the CEO and senior leadership team.

• Supporting Board oversight of organisational governance and risk
• Reviewing and advising on governance frameworks, policies, and controls
• Contributing to the development and review of the risk register
• Supporting proportionate, effective governance during a period of organisational change
• Bringing external perspective and sound judgement to complex issues
• This is an advisory role and does not involve operational management.

We are seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Corporate governance, compliance, or risk management
• Board or committee experience (charity, public, or regulated sectors desirable)
• Organisational assurance, internal controls, or regulatory environments
• Strategic risk assessment and mitigation

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• The confidence to provide independent challenge in a constructive way
• Good judgement and discretion
• A genuine interest in supporting a purpose-driven organisation

One online meeting every 4–6 weeks

Some preparation and reading in advance of meetings
