CLAS SUMMARY
This is the second and advanced journey level in a three level Code Compliance series. Incumbents perform inspections of residential and/or commercial buildings, materials and/or other applicable areas to ensure compliance with all local, state and/or federal regulations related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, signs, landscaping, concrete work, pools, and parking requirements. Responsibilities may include: reviewing construction plan documents; conducting field inspections of applicable structures and/or materials and identifying violations;
identifying code compliance issues and offenses; preparing reports; enforcing applicable codes, laws and regulations; attending meetings; maintaining applicable databases; and/or, performing other related activities.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS- Valid Texas driving license required.
- Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) Inspector's License
- International Code Council (ICC) Certification(s)
- Licensed Code Enforcement Officer certification through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
- Applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, regulations, policies, and;
- Basic investigation techniques;
- Construction and building maintenance principles;
- Basic inspection principles, practices, and procedures;
- Construction materials testing procedures;
- Surveying methods;
- Mathematical principles;
- Customer service principles;
- Computers and applicable software.
- Using computers and related software applications;
- Providing customer service;
- Conducting field inspections;
- Mediating hostile situations;
- Performing mathematical calculations;
- Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations;
- Maintaining records;
- Surveying field sites;
- Reading and interpreting construction plans, drawings, specifications, and special provisions;
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space‑related movement restrictions; intense noise; and other environmental conditions, such as challenging behaviors, imminent danger, and threatening environments; incumbents may also be expected to travel.
In order to be hired, applicants will need to pass a background check, a drug screen, physical exam, and a reference check.
