The Controller is responsible for overseeing the organization’s daily financial operations. This role leads and coordinates all accounting functions, including financial reporting and analysis, cost accounting, financial record maintenance, inventory accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and other related activities. The Controller provides strategic financial leadership to support profitability, productivity, and quality objectives while ensuring internal efficiency and external customer satisfaction. This individual must maintain a thorough understanding of the company’s financial position and deliver clear, timely insights to address questions and business challenges as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee professional accounting operations and prepare comprehensive financial reports, including profitability analysis, working capital management, and balance sheet reporting. Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Design, implement, and maintain financial controls and reporting systems across project accounting functions, including monitoring and reporting on project budgets and job costs.

Evaluate and enhance the finance team structure to promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and professional development opportunities.

Assess and strengthen the overall capabilities of the finance department to ensure organizational effectiveness.

Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate fiscal policies and procedures. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to support strategic business objectives.

Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes. Collaborate with department leaders to improve budgeting accuracy and provide guidance on financial impacts affecting their areas.

Conduct detailed financial analysis to assess the viability and profitability of long-term capital investments.

Establish benchmarks and interpret operational and financial performance metrics to drive informed decision-making.

Identify financial trends and provide actionable recommendations to executive leadership based on comprehensive data analysis.

Drive process improvements and margin enhancement initiatives through timely and accurate financial reporting.

Ensure accurate cost tracking and standardization of financial data reporting across the organization.

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Safeguard the integrity of financial operations by ensuring adherence to FASB standards and US GAAP requirements.

Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a construction accounting environment with job costing experience.

Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and payroll processes.

Demonstrated business partnership capabilities and strong communication skills.
