Position Description

The ESB Generation and Trading (“GT”) business develops, operates and trades the output of ESB’s electricity generation assets. The business is organised through its Asset Development, Trading and Generation functions. The business has operations in Ireland and Great Britain and has an annual turnover of in excess of €1bn. The portfolio consists of more than 5GW of thermal and renewable generation assets and has a target to have at least 5 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
RoleSummary
Applications are invited for the position of Senior Commercial Financial Analyst within the Asset Development Financial Analysis team. The team supports the delivery of the ESB Net Zero by 2040 Strategy through financial analysis and detailed financial modelling for Asset Development’s strategic investments.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and update financial models for capital investment projects at key milestones including sensitivity analysis.
- Review and challenge investment proposals for new and existing projects or business initiatives to ensure a sound commercial basis for undertaking such opportunities.
- Communicate the results of analysis and provide insights to support decision making at project and senior management level.
- Support the development and maintenance of a robust standardised financial modelling process.
- Assist business managers in forecasting, validation and update of business financial plans.
- Prepare financial models and presentations, review financial due diligence and share purchase agreements for potential acquisition opportunities.
- Identify relevant tax, accounting and risk management issues, and work with specialists within those areas to support robust financial modelling.
- A recognised professional accounting qualification, or another relevant financial qualification such as Chartered Financial Analyst.
- Strong Excel skills and at least three years of post‑qualification experience in financial modelling for capital investment projects.
- A commercial mindset with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior and business line managers.
- Strong communication techniques required to advocate for the key deliverables and drive consensus among stakeholders.
- Ability to leverage relationships to influence solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a demanding workload, including appropriate prioritisation of short‑term and long‑term deliverables.
- An understanding of Irish and UK energy markets would be beneficial.
