Director of Finance – Construction

The Director of Finance will serve as member of the leadership team, providing financial management, insights, and decision support to deliver the strategy and objectives. The Director of Finance reports to the CFO.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver financial analysis with insights across markets, customers, segments, resource planning, and cost structure.
  • Maintain in-depth financial understanding of project results, customer/segment performance trends, and spending to business partner with leadership on commercial initiatives.
  • Lead investment analysis to ensure strategic fit, ROI, and optimal capital allocation
  • Ensure financial understanding by leadership
  • Supports leadership on competitive analysis, including identifying insights to influence strategy, operations, and defense plans.
  • Lead management financial reporting vs budget and prior periods with insights at the department level.
  • Support month-end closing cycle
  • Ensure accuracy of cost codes
  • Maintain understanding of systems to optimize analysis and reporting.
  • Provide insights on pricing, project selections, and cash curves
  • Ensure financial targets and in-process project performance measures are effective and enabling optimal results
  • Participate in the project transition process and meetings to ensure a successful transition from estimating to operations
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls and reporting
  • Support project managers to track, monitor and adjust critical project activities
  • Review estimate revisions to ensure job measures and financials are updated
  • Support operations to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Monitor project cash flow & over/under billings and report any discrepancies to leadership
  • Partner with operations to understand performance progress and areas to improve
  • Implement accounting controls and procedures on a regional basis.
  • Implement corporate change initiatives
  • Develop procedures to ensure efficient administration of projects
  • Conduct administrative functions in accordance with policies, laws and regulations
  • Approve field checks and administrative expense invoices
  • Monitor project managers’ performance of productivity
  • Coach and mentor team members
  • Evaluate role performance
  • Reward and recognize professional development to encourage continuous learning
  • Develop & train on best practices
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or construction management
  • 10+ years’ of relevant finance experience with 5+ years at a project-driven business
  • ERP experience is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of job cost and construction accounting principles and processes
  • CPA, MBA, or other advanced certification a plus
  • Experience with creating and distributing Power BI reports is a plus
  • Experience with project management tools such as MS Project, etc. a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
