Director of Finance & Accounting

System One is partnering with a manufacturing client seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting who directs and manages company fiscal functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and with financial management techniques and practices appropriate for the manufacturing industry and S
- Corporations. This position reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and supports the strategic vision of the CEO through the development of financial policies and procedures and establishing financial reporting systems and controls to ensure compliance with company budgets and company vision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares timely and accurate budget analysis and financial review for executive management team.
  • Recommends and develops policies, procedures and systems to improve finance and accounting systems and processes.
  • Manage the efforts of transaction tax and financial audits.
  • Prepare transaction tax (sales/use and property) returns for monthly, quarterly and annual filings.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts on monthly basis.
  • Prepare all required taxes and ensure that taxes are paid in a timely manner. Provide guidance based on research on transaction tax laws and regulations.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to preserve and enhance cash accounts.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance.
  • Evaluate and advise on matters related to both short- and long-term financial planning.
  • Develop credibility for the finance and accounting group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO
    . Prepare financial presentations for the Board of Directors meetings.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the Corporation may enter.
  • Evaluation of the finance and accounting department for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group. Provide departmental individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.
  • Performs the duties of other accounting personnel (
    Specialist, Accounting
    ; Accountant, Staff
    ) in their absence.
  • Special projects and other duties as required.
  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA preferred.
    • 10+ years working in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
    • Strategy and planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 1–3-year time span.
    • A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective and is willing to provide fact-based opinions even if unpopular.
    • Experience working with international contracts and banks preferred.
    • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex contracts and documents.
    • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
    • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to management team and to Board of Directors when requested.
    • Proven track record of developing banking relationships.
    • Computer literacy required:
      Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Database software. Pay Com and Sage experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, employees and customers as required.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements in all matters.
    • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems or resolve issues, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
