VP of Finance | Houston | Hybrid - Clear path to CFO

A Houston-based industrial distribution business is seeking a hands-on VP of Finance to build and lead the in-house finance function.

This is a high-impact role responsible for transitioning accounting and finance from an outsourced provider to a fully integrated internal function. The ideal candidate is both strategic and operational comfortable owning debits and credits while serving as a key advisor to ownership.

• Lead the migration of accounting operations from outsourced firm to internal team
• Evaluate and optimize ERP/accounting systems and reporting infrastructure
• Establish scalable processes, internal controls, and monthly close procedures
• Recruit, hire, and mentor accounting staff as needed

• Own full-cycle accounting, including GL, AP/AR, payroll oversight, and consolidations
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Manage audit, tax, and external advisor relationships
• Strengthen internal controls and compliance framework

• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Deliver KPI-driven reporting to ownership and leadership
• Provide margin analysis, inventory analysis, and working capital optimization
• Support strategic initiatives including expansion, capital investments, and financing needs

• Manage banking relationships and debt compliance
• Oversee liquidity planning and capital structure strategy
• Implement disciplined cash forecasting processes

• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
• Prior Controller or VP of Finance experience in a $50M–$200M revenue company
• Experience transitioning from outsourced accounting to internal buildout strongly preferred
• Background in industrial distribution, manufacturing, construction materials, or similar sectors a plus
• CPA strongly preferred
• ERP implementation or system optimization experience
