Our client, a large growing oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, is seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant to support external financial reporting, regulatory filings, and audit coordination. This role offers broad exposure to complex reporting requirements, cross-functional collaboration, and interaction with external auditors in a highly regulated environment.
Position Overview
This role supports the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, regulatory reports, and audit deliverables. The position serves as a primary liaison with external auditors and plays a key role in resolving accounting matters, researching technical guidance, and supporting special reporting initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including supporting schedules and footnote disclosures
- Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits, responding to inquiries and providing requested analysis and documentation
- Manage multiple reporting work streams concurrently while meeting strict filing and audit deadlines
- Prepare, review, and submit required U.S. regulatory filings in compliance with applicable reporting standards
- Coordinate and support financial reporting projects, including management requests, audit-related analyses, and ad hoc initiatives
- Research accounting guidance under U.S. GAAP, evaluate reporting requirements, and document conclusions
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and technical documentation
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand how operational and financial activities impact external reporting and disclosures
- Represent the Financial Reporting function in meetings when delegated by leadership
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
- CPA preferred or obtaining CPA
- 2-3 years public accounting experience, Big 4 preferred
- Oil and gas experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and external financial reporting requirements
- Experience supporting quarterly and annual financial statement preparation and audits
- Proven ability to coordinate across teams and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
