Oil & Gas, Environmental Engineer, Geology / Geoscience, Environmental Compliance
The Development Geological Advisor will be responsible for a dual role in geomodelling and development geology to support the Vaalco team. They will create geologically reasonable static models by integrating interpretations and data from the geoscience team (seismic horizons, petrophysical rock properties, geological interpretations and depositional models, etc.), evaluate and modify existing static models. The Development Geological Advisor will work in collaboration with subsurface team (geoscientists, other geomodeller(s), simulation engineer(s) and reservoir engineers) to build reservoir simulation models in support of the company’s field development plans.
In a development geology capacity, they will be responsible for the evaluation and integration of geological, geophysical, engineering and production data to develop a detailed geological understanding of Vaalco’s reservoirs/fields while working closely with area engineers and geoscientists.
- Build and maintain geomodels for all field areas and exploration areas.
- Integrate seismic, horizon, well log, rock property other geological data and construct geomodels in Petrel.
- Utilizing statistical approaches, develop ranges of models that are consistent with data held but allow integration of other possible interpretations and scenarios
- Work closely with the Simulation engineers on the construction of reservoir simulation models and be able to modify the geomodels in geologically reasonable ways to assist in developing reservoir simulation models that can be history matched with a good degree of confidence
- In partnership with the Simulation reservoir engineer develop ideas for new well locations, well recompletions as well as estimates of Reserves and Resources remaining in the study area.
- Present and make recommendations to management to support work
- Provide operations support in drilling/rig program and update field results and reserves as needed
- Peer assist, collaboration both within the team and external support
- Participate in lead/prospect risking and volumetric calculations
- Generate and/or update maps following well drilling
- Identify unswept or poorly swept areas of the field and make sound recommendations for new well locations.
- Create estimates of recoverable volumes from newly planned wells in partnership with team reservoir engineer
- Make Maps from seismic interpretation such that they can be used as geomodel inputs
- Make structural and strati graphic maps at the field and reservoir level
- Work with Petrophysicist to develop reservoir property ranges for us in volume estimation and modeling.
- Pre-drill well preparation and planning. Interface with Drilling, Subsurface, Regulatory and Partners
- Provide operations support in drilling/rig program and update field results and reserves, as needed.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned by manager
- Bachelor's degree Geoscience discipline
- At least 10 years of experience in Development Geology including making and modifying geomodels of conventional reservoirs.
