Position: Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) Engineer – Drainage Design

Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) Engineer - Drainage Design Position Summary

Our client is seeking a Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) Engineer to support drainage and stormwater projects under the guidance of senior and lead H&H engineers. This role is intended for engineers with focused, hands‑on experience in H&H modeling and drainage design, who are confident executing core technical tasks and are looking to deepen their expertise within a specialized H&H environment. This is not a general civil engineering role.

The ideal candidate has depth in drainage and H&H work, even if their total years of experience are limited.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform drainage planning, design, and profile development
  • Complete drainage and stormwater calculations
  • Develop and support H&H models using tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XP-SWMM, or similar
  • Prepare drainage reports, technical memoranda, and design documentation
  • Support permitting efforts and coordination with local agencies
  • Work closely with senior engineers and participate in technical reviews
Required Qualifications
  • 2‑6 years of focused experience in Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) and drainage design
  • Demonstrated hands‑on depth in H&H tasks (modeling, calculations, drainage design), not just high‑level exposure
  • Strong drainage design and stormwater calculation experience
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one major H&H modeling tool (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XP-SWMM, or equivalent)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Ability to independently execute assigned H&H tasks and clearly explain past project work
Preferred Qualifications
  • Municipal or DOT project experience
  • Exposure to multiple H&H modeling platforms
  • PE license a plus, but not required (can be obtained in Texas)
Additional Screening Considerations
  • Consistent employment history preferred; unexplained employment gaps will be closely reviewed
  • Candidates must come from relevant H&H / drainage / civil infrastructure backgrounds
  • Profiles with unrelated industry experience or overly broad generalist roles will not be considered
