Job Description
The GCCS Field Operations Specialist is a primarily field-based technical leader responsible for hands‑on operations, maintenance, and optimization of landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) across a growing portfolio of RNG facilities.
This role is deeply embedded in the field and works side‑by‑side with site managers and technicians to build, standardize, and elevate wellfield and GCCS practices. A key responsibility is helping develop and continuously improve the company’s Wellfield Operations Guidebook and training framework to ensure RNG Technicians are capable of safely and effectively executing nearly all GCCS, plant, and pipeline‑related tasks.
This position also serves as a bridge between executive strategy and field execution, ensuring operational expectations are realistic, repeatable, and consistently applied across sites. Technicians are expected to support the full site, and this role helps build that multi‑skilled capability across the workforce.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may includePerform and lead hands‑on wellfield and GCCS O&M, including:
- Well tuning and balancing
- Vacuum/flow optimization
- Condensate management and dewatering
- Header and lateral inspections and repairs
- Wellhead, valve, and piping maintenance
- Troubleshoot air intrusion, migration concerns, and underperforming wells.
- Support GCCS expansions, redrills, and system modifications.
- Provide direct field support during startup and ramp‑up of new sites.
- Guidebook & Standards Development
- Help develop, refine, and maintain the Wellfield Operations Guidebook.
- Document best practices, lessons learned, and standardized procedures.
- Support creation of SOPs and practical field references for technicians.
- Ensure standards reflect real‑world field conditions and operational realities.
- Training & Workforce Development
- Deliver hands‑on, field‑based training to RNG Technicians.
- Partner with Site Managers to ensure training quality is world‑class and practical.
- Train both frontline technicians and site leadership on:
- Wellfield operations
- Maintenance management
- Diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Safe work practices
- Reinforce a multi‑skilled technician model where personnel can support wellfield, plant, and pipeline needs.
- Operational Integration
- Work in close coordination with site managers to align landfill gas supply with plant and pipeline demand.
- Promote a “one team, full site” mindset across operations.
- Support seamless integration between landfill, GCCS, plant, and pipeline functions.
- Strategy Translation & Feedback
- Translate executive strategy into actionable field practices.
- Provide practical feedback to leadership on system design, operability, and training needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, gas quality, and production.
- Safety & Compliance
- Model and enforce strong safety culture in field work.
- Support compliance with environmental permits and company HSER standards.
- Participate in incident reviews and corrective actions as needed.
- 5+ years landfill gas/GCCS experience.
- Strong, proven hands‑on wellfield tuning and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work extensively in field environments.
- Practical knowledge of landfill gas systems and operations.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Strong, effective communication ability with all levels of staff.
- RNG facility experience.
- Experience training or mentoring technicians.
- Familiarity with GCCS design and expansions.
- Mechanical aptitude with piping and condensate systems.
