Spacecraft Breakup and Demise Engineer – Join the JETSII Contract.
Responsibilities- Perform high‑fidelity, progressive spacecraft breakup and demise analysis to develop debris footprints and identify debris items that survive reentry.
- Develop state‑of‑the‑art software to model progressive spacecraft breakup, including models of spacecraft structural and thermal failure modes and changing vehicle mass and aerodynamic properties as breakup progresses.
- Collaborate with agency program and commercial partners to ensure that new spacecraft designs properly account for demise and that currently operational spacecraft are disposed of safely.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 15 years of experience.
- Experience with spacecraft breakup and demise analysis.
- Experience with 6‑DOF and multi‑body flight mechanics simulations.
- Experience with programming in FORTRAN.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to enable successful performance in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
- Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at meetings.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
- PhD in Aerospace Engineering and twenty (20) years of related experience.
- Proficiency in software development using programming languages such as FORTRAN, Python, C++, MATLAB, or Julia.
- Experience with product delivery and management.
- Experience with source code management tools such as Git/Git Lab and continuous integration systems such as Git Lab.

Essential Functions- Work environment:
Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. - Physical requirements:
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time). - Equipment and machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.). - Attendance:
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements. - Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
