CONOPS & Mission Analysis Engineer

Job Description

As a CONOPS & Mission Analysis Engineer, you will play a critical role in capturing stakeholder requirements and developing high-level Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documents to outline mission phases. Your expertise will contribute to mission scenario modeling, requirements allocation, interface definition, and cross-functional coordination. You will also lead integration and verification efforts, provide technical leadership, and support on-orbit operations.

Responsibilities
  • Collect functional, performance, environmental, and security requirements from stakeholders through workshops, technical interviews, and trade-study discussions.
  • Produce high-level CONOPS documents outlining mission phases, including launch, early-orbit operations, commissioning, nominal mission activities, and contingency operations.
  • Develop quantitative mission analysis models using tools like SysML and assess alternative system architectures based on performance, cost, and risk metrics.
  • Convert CONOPS outputs into system-level requirements and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Define and document interfaces between spacecraft, payloads, the ground segment, and mission operations teams.
  • Prepare and present technical updates, risk analyses, and trade-study results to upper management, customers, or partners.
  • Lead trade studies involving spacecraft buses, payloads, launch vehicles, and ground-segment alternatives.
  • Create verification plans, test matrices, test scripts, and validation procedures for operational readiness.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and interns and serve as a technical liaison with customers, partners, and external vendors.
  • Ensure all analyses, deliverables, and documentation are properly version-controlled within a PLM environment.
  • Provide ongoing support to mission operations teams for health monitoring, anomaly response, and performance trending.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in systems engineering and satellite mission planning.
  • Proficiency in stakeholder requirement capture and CONOPS development.
  • Expertise in mission scenario modeling and requirements allocation.
  • Ability to define and develop interfaces and manage cross-functional coordination.
  • Strong skills in integration, verification, technical leadership, and mentorship.
  • Proficiency in configuration, documentation, and standards management.
  • Experience in on-orbit and operations support, including in-orbit testing and trade studies.
